grad project.
it has been a long 4 1/2 years at emily carr. and as may 3rd approaches so do the deadlines for our final projects. i had spent over a year working on a series of portraits of friends. (you can see here) however after spending nearly 3 semesters and one summer gathering up images i became bored of it all. therefore with just over 3 months left i decided to start from scratch and begin a new series entirely. this past fall i became very interested… or rather intrigued…by the phenomena of how people (in particular, post-teenage-twenty-something year olds) are attracted to other people who share several commonalities when it comes to romance. (ie looks, characteristics, styles, talents, artistic expressions, ideas…etc..) the poetics and politics of the chemistry that initiates the attractions are subtle, and often subconscious. I could ramble on about the whole thing but this is not intended to turn into an artist statement. So to make a long story short, I plan to create a series of portraits, of couples, that examines the ever-so common marvel I had mentioned a few lines up and how two serpate people, who can still exists successfuly entirely on their own can come together to great one super-being. (and I don’t really have an idea about formality at this point, just that they’ll be printed 30×40….
Here are a few from the first couple of shoots (no pun intended…heh.) I’ve done.
this is leah and jasper. they like bob dylan, haute-couture, sharing each other’s warbdrobe, the beat generation and really bad hollywood blockbusters.
this is jody and matt. they live in a cute loft on beatty st. they are both very very good photographers (you can see jody here. and matt there.) they rescued a wonderful dog named johnathon who also shares their loft. they enjoy making lattes in their new coffe machines and not only have matching moccasin slippers but matching piercing blue eyes as well.
