this week maya and graham left for mexico for forever, ok not forever
but several months. this was our final family pow wow till their return.
I don’t have to many photos of myself these days… nor really from the past, come to think about it. Even as a photographer I very rarely take the time to do any self portraits. As much as I love a nice photo of myself as the next person I hate being in front of the camera (also I had no idea how to work the self timer on my hasselblad till today) and get and overwhelming feeling of self indulgence when i part take in a photograph the centers me. (you know the same kind of guilt after you eat a delicious piece cheesecake)..bla bla bla… long jabber short, i had to submit a self portrait for the HERE is NOW zine they are printing so today got myself dolled up in my favourite blanket to find an adequate photo to submit.

A few weeks back my friend Derek asked me to be part of a show called HERE is NOW. Some of my close and very talented friends are also in it. You should probably come and hang out and have a drink. Its on Friday January 29th at The Chapel.
For the past week I have been blessed with the presence of one of my longest and dearest friends, Jacqueline Lane. Jacque is currently finishing her grad project at OCAD and asked me to photograph a part of her work. here are a few snaps I took of her while she was visiting.

Today is the very last day of the first decade of the new millennium. 2010. Imagine that. My dearest friend/upstairs neighbor/co-worker/everything in between, Mish, wrote an entertaining A-Z 2009 article for Hearty, and although my life is far from the glamours of 2009’s pop culture gossip, I decided to post a ‘best-of’ Michelle Ford’s 2009.
.I spent the better half of this morning sitting in front of iphoto (yes i use iphoto, religiously at that) trying to narrow down a collection of photos that would sum up 2009. This past year was probably one of my most important years for my “self discovery”. Good times were had, mistakes were made, overwhelming sadness and paralyzing amounts of joy, turning 25, falling out of love, falling into love with everything around me, death, life, home is where your heart is, the family, my family, the west and the east, bk, soul mates, moving days, make(made)overs and at last a place to call home.

January: I shot my first feature for PIG with Fan Death.
February: was a very long month.
March: I use to call this place home once upon a time (palmdale, California)
April: I moved to the big apple. Jody had a birthday. And chad dressed up as Karl Lagerfeld.
May: I turned 25 and spent most of my time on this roof top with Jody
June: I got homesick and went back vancouver. we spent the longest days
of the year watching the sun set on pasely island.
July: Leah came to visit. we drove to Chicago and camped in Ohio.
August: Things finally started to come together, just in time for me to leave.
September: I found home again.
October: I found family again (tony x took this)
November: When i wouldn’t leave my home, they came to me.
December: These are the days. I probably replace this photo with
christmas photo once i get them developed.

My friend Meghan Patterson and Dustin Fishbook (who also owns The Belmont Barbershop located downstairs from Mr Lee’s) and Jeff Lee Petry opened a general store on Broadway and Quebec. This week I went in and took some quick photos of the store and how cute Meghan and Dustin are together. (we’ll all know how much i love super couples)

those of you who know me, probably having a tough time remembering what i look like. between working nights 6 days a week and my new found love for arts and crafts and yoga during the day my level of reclusive-ness has is at an all time high. Thankfully Maya and Mish have taken the initiative to move sunday night family night to my apartment for the last 4 weeks. and somewhere in between i managed to flee the country and head to seattle to see wanda jackson play!
